"Success" in a complex and uncertain world .....
How do we define and achieve success -- as individuals or in our organisations and communities as we approach the next century
Workshop abstract:Kate Andrews
The nature of knowing: processes for surfacing and understanding how people think about knowledge
There has been recent dramatic growth in interest in knowledge as an organisational variable, with a particular focus on the tacit -- explicit dimension. However, a more fundamental knowledge construct has been overlooked. The way that people think about the nature of knowledge itself -- in short, their theory of knowledge - is poorly understood.Do people in workplace settings see the world as objectively knowable through the application of logical, formal cognitive processes? Or do they conceptualise knowledge as a construction of reality, rather than a copy of it?
In this workshop, processes to surface and understand underpinning theories of knowledge will be pioneered. Building on this, the implications of theory of knowledge on action learning, action research and process management will be explored.
This is a highly exploratory and involving session -- group work to try things out and seefor themselves what works and doesn't.
