This is a workshop for people who have several months experience as a facilitator or consultant or who have already completed the “Foundations of facilitation” workshop.  People who have little or no prior experience of facilitation may find the Foundations of facilitation workshop more appropriate. Who? People who already have some skills and experience at facilitating small groups, who wish to enhance their skills and understanding through a mix of theory, instruction, and practice.  People who will benefit may include educators   facilitators   trainers   consultants   workers in extension or landcare   action researchers and action learning facilitators team leaders and managers ...  people whose work includes helping teams and groups to perform more effectively and enjoyably, and would like to become even more effective at it. When is it? Two days:   9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday 21 August (registration from 8:30 a.m.)  and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday 22 August 2009. Where? Skills, concepts, processes and techniques for facilitation, possibly including the following (as negotiated with participants) designing, observing and diagnosing group process   preparatory work for groups: goal setting, climate setting, relationship building   using processes derived from complexity theory for problem solving or decision making when rational processes won't work   facilitating meetings (for problem-solving and decision-making), learning, and/or change   intervening in difficult situations Action research principles and processes are used to fine tune the workshop as it progresses. How? Participants will help to determine the process and content of the workshop.  Subject to this negotiation they can anticipate an involving process which provides a mix of theory, discussion and practice.  There will be small group work to help participants consolidate the skills, techniques and concepts. Participants may ask for pre-work to help them prepare for the workshop and obtain the most from it. Facilitator? The workshop facilitator is Bob Dick, a Brisbane-based educator, facilitator and consultant whose reputation in these fields is based on over thirty years of experience in a variety of settings. Those of you who are familiar with his work will know that his style is casual and participative, his processes robust and learnable, and his documentation clear, readable and practical.  His workshops are characterised by an integration of theory and practice, with equal emphasis on the development of skills and understanding.  The processes and models he helps others learn are those which he makes use of in his own work. Cost? The fee for the two days is $660.00 payable in advance, or $550.00 if received by 5 August.  All prices quoted are in Australian dollars and include GST. Cancellations will result in a 90 per cent refund if received by 12 August, and a 50 per cent refund if received by 19 August.  Participants who are unable to attend are welcome to substitute someone else.  A limited number of half-price bursaries may be available for those genuinely unable to pay the full fee, or other arrangements may be possible.  Teams from a single organisation may qualify for a discount.
