Community and organisational change
             workshop

        IN HOUSE PRESENTATION

There are processes which involve those affected by changes in planning and implementing the changes.  There are processes which help to make the planning and implementation more effective.  In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to learn more participative processes for community and organisational change.

Who is it for?

This workshop is designed for people who are called upon to facilitate change and bring about community and organisational improvement.  The emphasis is on those approaches which directly involve those people who are most directly affected.  Participants who will benefit may include:

  • people who work as facilitators in community and organisational change

  • managers (including public sector and community sector managers) who increasingly may be called up to carry out change within their areas of responsibility

  • workers in community development (and in fields such as extension or landcare) who wish to bring about community improvement

  • trainers who wish to involve their participants more in on-the-job learning and improvement.

When is it?

Available for in-house presentation.

What?

Workshop content will be developed partly in consultation with participants.  It is likely to include skills, concepts, processes and techniques for

negotiating entry to the organisation or community, building relationships with the clients, and negotiating roles with them

developing appropriate mechanisms and processes for client involvement in the change program, and building an appropriate culture for change

diagnosing the present situation and choosing a starting pointsetting goals and/or determining a vision for the change program

developing an implementation plan for the change process.

Robust participative methods for doing this will be an emphasis of the workshop.

How?

Participants will help to determine the process and content of the workshop.  Subject to this negotiation they can anticipate an involving process which provides a mix of theory, discussion and practice.  There will be small group work to help participants consolidate the skills, techniques and concepts. There will be appropriate handouts.

Facilitator?

The workshop facilitator is Bob Dick, a Brisbane-based educator, facilitator and consultant whose reputation in these fields is based on over a quarter of a century of experience. Those of you who are familiar with his work will know that his style is casual and participative, his processes robust and learnable, and his documentation clear, readable and practical.  His workshops are characterised by an integration of theory and practice, with equal emphasis on the development of skills and understanding.  The processes and models he helps others learn are those which he makes use of in his own work.

Negotiate your own in-house workshop

If you would prefer to have a workshop specifically designed to meet your particular needs, and run for you in your organisation or community, Interchange would be pleased to do that.  Important advantages of in-house and in-community workshops include their relevance (we fine-tune them to your needs), and their greater ease of application to real local issues.
