Deserts and Desertification
The slogan: "DON'T DESERT
DRYLANDS" emphasizes the importance of protecting drylands,
which cover more than 40% of the planet's surface. This ecosystem is home to one-third of the world's people who are more
vulnerable members of society.

Climate
Justice – A Particular Focus
Since 2002, the
Catholic Justice and Peace Commission of Brisbane has made climate
justice a particular focus of its work on the environment.
Much
of our work has involved promoting the Cool Communities project.
In partnership with the Australian Government Office and the
Queensland Conservation Council, we undertook to present a series of
workshops to teach householders how to reduce their use of energy as a
practical response to global warming and climate change.
On
the Gold Coast, the Fraser Coast and in the South Burnett, over 360
households participated in these workshops and implemented changes to
reduce energy consumption.
Their
efforts not only do something to protect our environment for future
generations, but also demonstrate solidarity with the people of the
Pacific whose homes are threatened by rising sea levels, a consequence
of global warming.
Included
in this resource are a prayer about rising
sea levels prepared by Christians in the Pacific and some of their
reflections on this crisis.
