iPass Global Access allows UQ staff to access the Internet and UQ resources from locations outside Australia using the iPASS community of Internet Service Providers (ISP's) via local Points Of Presence (POPs). To view a list of participating POPs click the 'Access Point Finder' link on the following page: http://www.ipass.com/pcgi/poplookup.php.
If you plan to use an email client (such as Microsoft Outlook) to send and receive email while you are overseas, you will need to use VPN in conjunction with iPass. If this applies to you, please install VPN before working through this guide. Once VPN is installed on your computer you can configure iPass to automatically launch the application each time you make a global access connection.

| 1)If iPass does not launch automatically, open the application from the Windows 'All Programs' menu (located off the Windows [Start] menu). |

| 2)Click 'Settings' and select 'Login Information' from the drop-down menu. |

| 4)Enter 'uqconnect.net' in the 'Domain' field. |
| 5)Enter your password. If you would like iPass to store a copy of your password tick the 'Save Password' checkbox. |
| 6)Click the [OK] button to continue. |

| 7)Click 'Settings' and select 'Connection Settings' from the drop-down menu. |

| 8)Select which kind of connection you are going to use. If you will be dialling up to the internet click the 'Dial-up' tab at the top of the screen. If you have subscribed to wireless iPass through UQconnect you can click on the 'Wireless' tab to select the wireless device that you will be using to connect with, you can also tweak any settings needed. IMPORTANT- You MUST be subscribed to the wireless iPass for this to work |
| 9)Ensure your modem is selected in the 'Device' field. |
| 10)Set 'Redial Attempts' to '1', and 'Redial if not connected ...' to '90' seconds. |
| 11)Click the [OK] button to continue. |

| If you are currently connected to the internet we recommend you update the iPass Phonebook. (If you are not connected to the internet now, please follow steps 12 & 13 the next time you are online). |
| 12)Click 'Settings', select 'Update iPassConnect', and select 'Phone Book'. |

| Section Four - Integrating iPass with VPN |
| If have not installed VPN on your computer you can skip the following steps and proceed straight to section five below. |

| 4) Navigate to the VPN folder (select 'Local disk (C:)' > 'Program Files' > 'Cisco Systems' > 'VPN Client'). |

| 7)Enter 'VPN' in the 'Description' field. |

| Section Five - Establishing A Connection |

| 1)Use the drop-down list to select the country you are calling from. |
| 2)Make appropriate selections in the 'City' and 'State' (if applicable) fields. |
| 3)Click the drop-down arrow next to 'Modem' and select one of the listed options. (Note: you may be presented with a choice between 'Modem' and 'ISDN' - please make your selection from the 'Modem' area). |
| 4)Click the [Find] button. |
| 5)If you need to specify any special dialing properties (e.g. a number to dial to get an outside line) click the [Dial Properties] button. |
