Prerequisites

  • To access Exchange Labs, you need the Windows Live ID that was given for use with Exchange Labs and your password. The Windows Live ID account is also your primary e-mail address and includes the name of the domain, for example, firstname.lastname@uqconnect.edu.au). To confirm that your username and password are valid go to: https://exchangelabs.com
  • Internet connectivity recommended

Setup

  1. Click the start menu
  2. Right click on the 'E-mail Microsoft Office Outlook' icon and then select 'Properties' from the list
  3. Click the [Email Accounts...] button.
  4. Click the [New...]
  5. Make sure the dot is next to 'Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP'
  6. Click the [Next >] button
  7. Tick the 'Manually configure server settings or additional server types
  8. Click the [Next >] button
  9. Make sure the dot is next to 'Internet E-mail'
  10. Click the [Next >] button
  11. On the 'Internet E-mail Settings' window:
    1. Type your display name in 'Your name' field.
    2. Type your @uqconnect.edu.au email address in 'E-mail Address' field.
    3. Next to Account Type:, select 'POP' or 'IMAP'. You might want to use IMAP because it supports more features and mail stays on the server.
    4. Next to Incoming mail server: enter:
      for IMAP enter: imap.exchangelabs.com (recommended)
      for POP3 enter: pop.exchangelabs.com
    5. Under Outgoing mail server (SMTP):, enter 'smtp.exchangelabs.com'.
    6. Next to 'User Name:', enter your @uqconnect.edu.au e-mail address.
    7. Next to 'Password:', enter your Exchange Labs password that was given to you.
  12. Click the [More Settings...] button.
  13. Click the 'Outgoing Server' tab and then do the following:
    1. Tick the 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authenication'
    2. Ensure that 'use the same setting as my incoming server' option is selected.
  14. Click the 'Advanced' tab and then do the following:
    1. Change the Incoming Server: Port to '995' if you are using POP3 or Port '993' if you are using IMAP.
    2. From the 'Use the following type of encrypted connection:' dropdown, select 'SSL'
    3. Change the Outgoing Server: Port to '587'.
    4. From the 'Use the following type of encrypted connection:' dropdown, select 'TLS'
    5. Click the [OK] button
  15. Click the [Next >] button
  16. Click the [Finish] button
