Common Chickweed... |
Stellaria media Common Chickweed |
Common chickweed was an ancient pot
herb and its seeds have been found in Neolithic burial sites. Traditionally,
it was fed to domesticated birds. It is a homeopathic remedy for rheumatism.
A poultice of stems and leaves is used to ease arthritis and pains of the
joints, as well as to treat cuts, skin irritations and inflammation.
Common chickweed is a "weed", forming dense mats on moist, cultivated or waste ground. Cultivation is usually unnecessary, as the plants self-seed themselves all too freely, especially in dry weather. |
