Mac Chat
No 5 Feb 2005
EDITORIAL.
I’ll start the first edition for 2005 by getting a couple regular items off my chest and hope I won’t have to raise them again (at least, not for a few months).
1 Notice Boards. Please, please, read them. They are one way we try to let you know what is going on.
2 We will try very hard to produce Macchat every two months this year but we need help to fill the space. Personal items, particularly, add interest.
3 If you have any problems, complaints or suggestions for improvement, do let President Sandy know. That’s what she is there for and we really do want every member to be involved in the good functioning of our Club.
PARTIES.
While on the subject of helping……
Party bookings are rolling in. We have had several already in January and February and we currently have two for March and four for April.
Depending on numbers, we usually need three or four members to show the guests how to swing a mallet and how to play golf croquet. (You can all do this, can’t you?) Once the party is under way, we retire to our lair and let the guests enjoy themselves.
You can see that it is not onerous work, it just takes time. Volunteering will avert conscription.
GARAGE SALE.
We have scheduled this for Saturday 4 June. Start saving but don’t bring anything over yet!
(hint) Homemade pickles and jam were very popular last year. How would mango chutney go?
WHAT’S THE COMMITTEE UP TO?
Committee minutes are posted on the notice board above the sign-in book. Please read them.
A couple of comments on why we do some of the things we do – the Council, State Gov’t and various funding bodies see us as a Community Organisation and support (i.e., money) from them depends on our acting like a community organisation. That is, persuading as many people as possible to use our facilities when we are not using them ourselves. The more people and organisations we can get on to our premises the better our chances of winning grants for desperately needed improvements and repairs.
Keeping the above in mind, we are about to contact primary schools in the area offering our lawns for junior croquet and/or gateball. This will bring in some income, get us known to the parents of the kids (specially if they have a good time) and get lots of brownie points for our grant applications.
And parties. We must keep the party hire rolling in as this was easily our biggest source of income last year – more than membership fees and more than the grant money we received. Consider that, if you are asked to help.
HOME IMPROVEMENTS.
We have had a couple of working bees and you will have noticed the changes.
We now have two full size lawns and three 4/5 size lawns. Marking and measuring for hoops has not been completed but will be soon.
We got rid of a skip full of rubbish from under the clubhouse and a lot of the lawn clippings.
More working bees are in mind and we will give you more notice next time as to how you can help.
