Enjoy Internet and email access around the world through UQconnect Global Access

This service takes all the troubles out of overseas travel. All you have to do is download the UQconnect Global Access client, dial-up the local number (provided to you) and we just charge you for the time spent on the connection. Your organisational unit is then billed on a monthly basis

If you intend to access files on UQ Net (the University's network) while overseas then you can also use our free Virtual Private Network solution in conjunction with Global Access.

To be eligible for this service you must be a UQ Staff member and have your application approved.

About Global Access

This service for UQ staff members provides you with Internet access around the world.  It provides access through:

• Dial-up
• Wireless hotspots

We cannot 100% guarantee the quality of your UQconnect Global Access connection overseas as connection quality will vary from country to country. When you are using this service you are not connected to a UQconnect Point of Presence (POP). However, if you are having particular difficulty in a country we ask that you keep us informed.

You are responsible for the costs incurred for all calls to the local POP. The local call cost is not included in any price quoted for the service.

Global Access Pricing

Set-up Fee: $12.50

Dial-up rates

UQconnect Global Access is now charged by region. There are no additional charges for download used. Each month you will be charged for time used during the previous month.

Wireless Access rates

These rates are charged additionally from the dial-up rates, whenever you access iPass wireless hotspots.  Each month you will be charged for time used during the previous month.

NOTE: Organisations that are affiliated with the University but have their own discreet ABN will have to apply for  business affiliate or research affiliate Global Access.

How to get started

UQconnect Global Access operates through special software that needs to be installed on your computer. To activate the service simply apply for the service then once the application is approved and registered, Global Access clients may have their systems set up by any of the following methods:

• You can download the software and configure it yourself by following our online Setup Guides.
• If your department has a Service Level Agreement with ITS you may want to get a Technician from Campus Technology Support to come to your office.  Contact the Help Desk on (07) 336 56000 to organise this.
• Find out about which countries fall under which region.
