Creating Mail Rules in Outlook Express
Automatically put Bengals_L emails into a separate
folder.
Scenario
:
Automatically highlight emails from a friend in a
special colour.
Scenario 1:
Let’s say you want all Bengals_L email to be
automatically put into a separate
folder.
- First, create a New Folder to store them in:
- Click (once only) on Local Folders
- Right click once so this little menu pops up

- Select New Folder
- Give the folder a name eg: Bengals_List and click OK.

- Now create a Rule to move Bengals_L mail to that folder:
- Select Tools, Message Rules, Mail.

- Click on New.
- Tick Where the From line contains people.
- Tick Move it to the specified folder.
[Don’t press OK yet]

- Now click on contains people in the third section of that window.

- Type Bengals_L and click Add.
(you can come back later and modify this Rule to add another
person/group if you like)
- Click OK (this returns you to the New Message window)
- (Still in the third section of the New Message Window) click on specified.

- Choose the folder you created in Step 1, i.e. Bengals_List and
click OK.

- Give the Rule a meaningful name eg: Move Bengals List email to
Bengals folder.
- Click OK to save the rule.

- Tick your newly made Rule if it is not already ticked.
- Click OK
- To test, send the Bengals_L a TEST email or wait for your next email to
arrive.
Scenario 2:
Let’s say you want all emails from a friend called Esther
to be highlighted in Fushia (but not moved to special folder).
- Select Tools, Message Rules, Mail.
- Click on New.
- Tick Where the From line contains people.
- In the second section, scroll down till you find Highlight with color.
- Tick Highlight with color.
[Don’t press OK yet]

- Now click on contains people in the third section of that window.
- Type <email address1> and click Add (substitute
your friend’s email address here)
- Type <email address2> and click Add (if they have two
accounts you need to add both)
- Click OK (this returns you to the New Message window)
- (Still in the third section of the New Message Window) click on color.
-
- Scroll down until you find Fushia (or whatever colour you want)
and click on it.

- Give the Rule a meaningful name eg: From Esther.
- Click OK to save the rule.
- Tick your newly made Rule if it is not already ticked.
- Click OK
- To test, send an email to your friend and ask them to reply. When the
email arrives it will be in your Inbox coloured in Fushia (or Purple in
my example).
Have fun with it!
