Noticeboard for Australians Abroad

This noticeboard is intended for Australians living abroad wishing to broadcast a message, typically of a non-commercial nature. Examples of things that might appear here include: seeking to find fellow Australians in a certain area; looking for a good pub (good luck!); asking for advice regarding buying/selling/renting; announcing an event (eg the AFL grand final night); etc etc. Basically it should be treated like a noticeboard you'd find in a tea room / lunch room.

If you have a message you want to appear on this page please email Don Simonetta who shall pin your message on the board within a few days.

The opinions expressed in the following messages are from readers of my page(s) and are not necessarily mine.

Warning: unfortunately spammers like to scavenge email addresses from noticeboards such as this one. With this in mind, please consider which email address you supply when requesting a message be pinned here.

I’m trying to make connections with Australians who live in the US or Americans who have worked in Australia. I have been
researching my options to live and work in Australia and am having trouble knowing how to start. I would like to connect with
others who would have first hand knowledge of how to find work in Australia first and then move there second

G'Day! To all the Australian Americans, Australians and people who appreciate the Australian culture: there's going to be
a U.S. movie premiere for the film, "Beautiful." My team and I are so excited to bring the Australian culture to Orange County!
This is THE biggest Australian event in Orange County! The Newport Beach Film Festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary and
we are so excited to premiere this film. Mark your calendars! The night is: Monday, April 27th @ 7:30 p.m. Actor John Nobel
(who's a current actor in Fox's hit TV show, "Fringe") will be attending as guest of honor. We will also have a didgeridoo
player at the beginning of the night. When the film is done, there'll be an after party at a nightclub just a few miles from
the theater, where there will be an open bar, appetizers, music and dancing. Tickets are $30 for the movie and after party or
$15 just for the movie or $20 just for the after party. You can purchase the tickets at www.NewportBeachFilmFest.com or
call 1-866-NBFF-TIX. Hope to see you there!

The Hollywood Ashes is back on Sunday May 3rd. The Hollywood Ashes returns for the second year with all the action,
competition, legends, celebrities and fun in the sun of the first year but this year it's bigger and better.

The Hollywood Ashes were conceived by a group of cricket enthusiasts in the Hollywood Hills while watching a satellite feed
of the 2006/07 Ashes series. It was decided then that Los Angeles needed its own legendary cricket match between Australia
and England. In 2008, the inaugural Hollywood Ashes took place as part of LA’s Australia Week - G’Day USA.

The inaugural match attracted lots of attention with a number of former cricket legends participating on the day.
Steve Waugh and Mike Whitney represented Australia and Robert Keyes and Simon Jones represented England with Mel Gibson
officiating the coin-toss. Other sport and showbiz celebrities joined in to play for their respective sides. The match
was played in front of jovial and fiercely loyal crowd of Australian and British expats. Britain won the battle on the
pitch but Cricket was the real winner of the day, even if the Americans audience still couldn’t work it all out.

This year, the event will be held during Brit Week on Sunday, 3rd May at Woodley Park. Drinks start at 12 with the days
play scheduled to commence at 1pm. Food and drink will be available for picnickers, supporters and all members of the
family. The game will be played under Twenty20 rules with each team facing a maximum of 20 overs. The teams will once
again be represented by former international cricketing legends with Australia and British celebrities playing on the
respective teams. The international selectors are currently fine tuning their teams so an official announcement of the
sides is expected soon.

For further information on the event or to inquire about sponsorship opportunities please see the official Hollywood Ashes
website - http://www.hollywoodashes.com

I work for MarxFoods.com, an American online specialty (hard-to-find) food company. Last year we had a huge surge
of orders for kangaroo meat from people celebrating Australia Day in the U.S. So this year, I'm reaching out to
people who have connections with expats to let them know we're a source for Roo meat if Aussies who are living in
the U.S. are looking for it. http://www.marxfoods.com/products/Kangaroo

Hi guys,

I'm planning on making the leap and moving to LA next year to pursue an acting career. I'm just confused about
visas and gaining residency and things like that. If anyone can let me know about these details, and what I can
do to make the transition as easy as possible, or would like to share their experiences with me, then please
drop me an email. I'll be really grateful and it'll clear a lot of things up for me.

Thank you!

I am currently living in Toronto and will hopefully be moving to Chicago, Illinois next month. I'll be
staying with my brother and his family but would like to meet other Aussies there.

In the meantime, does anyone know of any Aussie-style bar/pub in Toronto to celebrate Australia Day?
Every place I've been to so far has Foster's on tap though I'd kill for a Carlton Draught!

Very happy to have achieved my dream of being here in the States, but

just be able to talk the lingo.

About me - I am into hiking, movies, cafes, travel, beach volleyball
(but only in summer!)

Drop me a line and perhaps we can chat!
