I have listed some of the stones below that can be found in the general area along with the some of the locations where these stones can be found.
Ironstone - On the Mount Mort - Granchester Road about 3.7 kilometres from Granchester there is a rocky ironstone outcrop.
Opalised Wood - Reports of excellent opalised wood at Fleischfresser Gully; Mount Mort; Mount Berryman and all along Blackfellow and Black Duck Creeks. Petrified and opalised fern, vegetation and other materials can also be found all along Blackfellow and Black Duck Creeks.
Chalcedony - Can be found all along Blackfellow and Black Duck Creeks.
Picture Stone - Can be found all along Blackfellow and Black Duck Creeks, but requires a careful and keen eye.
Labradorite - Small pieces of faceting grade labradorite can be found all along Long Gully road North of Granchester, but especially at 4.4 kilometres along this road at a small dry creek crossing.
Yellow / Peanut Jasper - Beautiful grade yellow and peanut jasper can be found along Long Gully road North of Granchester, but especially at 4.4 kilometres along this road at a small dry creek crossing. Micro quartz crystals can also be found here.
Olivine - Good Peridot quality faceting grade olivine can be found in the creek about 1 kilometre before Spring Bluff directly opposite the scree on the northern side of the road. The stone can be found, using a ¼-inch and an 1/8th-inch sieve or pulling out crystals from open vughs. (These facet beautifully) (27,28.122, 151,59.359)
Agate, jasper and petrified wood - Ironised variety of petrified wood can be collected from gravel pits some 11.2 kilometres north-east of Gatton on the Lake Clarendon road.
Chalcedony & Opalite - In and around the Mt Sylvia area, which is 19 Kilometres from Laidley, Chalcedony and Opalite can be found for many kilometres in the creek alluvials.
The below photographs were taken by me of just some of the stones that can be found in this area.
